Medicamentos E Invierno
Medications And Winter
Ahora que se acerca el invierno aquí en el hemisferio norte, ¿conduces o sales a buscar tus medicamentos o tienes entrega a domicilio?
Now that winter is upon us here in the northern hemisphere, are you driving or going out to get your medications or do you have home delivery?
My Company Insurance (BCBS) requires home delivery for Specialty Pharmaceuticals with 90 day supply. Now, one thing I was given this past year was a Gilead Card. It's a bit proactive to use, but it pays my co-pay. I just have to fill out a form when I get my prescription and mail the form in, with the receipt. Gilead will mail a new form, when they settle with a check for my co-pay, to use the next time I refill. Gilead currently does not have a portal for this program, so like I said above, it's proactive. I have Flex Spend, with my company, that I use for the co-pay, but I do enjoy getting the charges back with the Gilead Program. If you're paying for your prescription or a co-pay (mine is $200), ask your ID Doctor about this program and sign up. It's an easy sign up process with one phone call. I just wish I had it a few years ago.
I call them in and take public transportation to pick them up. The pharmacy is not far and gives me a reason to see people.
@Un miembro de myHIVteam, I too have BCBS, but I go to the pharmacy to pick up my meds. The specialty pharmacy BCBS had for me, they decided they didn't want them. So it is off to the pharmacy now.
I do not have a Gilead card. My drug assistance program (ADAP) pays for my insurance premium AND the difference between what the pays. So insurance pays all but $425 and ADAP pays that $425 (on top of the insurance premium at 100%).
I do not have a flex spending account, but I DO have a health savings account. Anything I need for my health I can use this account for. The money that goes into this account is NOT taxable, so at tax time it reduces my tax liability. Not only does it reduce my tax liability, I can claim the amount of money I used out of this account, thus reducing my tax liability even more.
In kenya the drugs can only be gotten donor HIV centres / community centre / major hospitals.
Sadly most of the places one can get drugs have a sign writen VCT outside so anyone going in or out has either gone for a test or is getting meds. As a result many people travel different parts of the city to get drugs so that they dont bump into relatives friends or neighbours.
Most people are on a govt run program where drugs are given free either monthly or quarterly depending on the centre but one has to go physically or send a family member with a card. Yes we have to walk around with a card that is so obvious - i have refused to carry mine, everytime am given i throw it. My argument anyone seeing the card knows your positive and plus if i know my clinic registration number and my drugs i just need to give you and you check the system. (am a stubborn goat i guess)
Yes I drive to get my medication
