Are you receiving services from your local ASO, local AIDS Service Organization?
Debido a la falta de financiación, las ASO se han visto muy afectadas. Due to lack of funding ASO's have been hit hard. I have no clue who my case manager is now, and as a whole the agency isn't very helpful for being in a big city, at least for me. This is a good question relative to our current situation with the pandemic.
The Maui Aids Foundation (MAF) helps me 2 things only since I don't qualify for any of the other services.
1- HDAP (Hawaii Drug Assistance Program) who pays all of my co-pays for name branded HIV meds. My out of pocket copay is 270 mo. My private insurance pays the majority. Only thing HDAP doesn't cover are generic equivalents of my HIV meds.
2- I am allowed access to their food pantry and can visit once per week to shop between a large selection of food items. I never found the need to access this and leave it for other clients instead.
The best Case manager out of all 7 that I had, Christine Kapi'ioho, she was actually the executive director of the MAF and I requested a Hawaiian case manager because she is in tune with Hawaiian culture. Unfortunate that she had left and moved away to care for her father. She was case manager for both myself and my late partner Timmy.
Since last year, when everything went into chaos with this pandemic, I haven't been in to see my current manager but they do keep in touch via email and text also they hold monthly support group luncheons on the beach as a get together.
I am overdue for a case assessment to determine if I qualify for additional resources. I just need to make the appointment, and soon before funds are depleted.
When we lived on Oahu, we were clients of the Life Foundation, the local HIV/AIDS foundation on that island.
I am happy knowing there is the MAF if my financial situation changes and I need help. Aloha!
Baton Rouge has an excellent system and Doctors
Here where I live in Tennessee we have a great system. Ours is thru our local Health Department
Florida or at least Tampa still has a very good system
Dallas has a great system for hiv/aids clients.
