Lo que me ha beneficiado es que he recuperado las ganas de vivir y he aprendido a valorar mi vida. Lo que me ha perjudicado es que perdí a mi pareja y a parte de mi familia. Lo bueno es que encontré a un hombre que me ama y me trata con respeto y cariño. Lo malo es que a veces tengo emociones negativas. En definitiva, me alegro de haber recibido el diagnóstico, ya que me abrió la mente y los ojos para ver de qué se trata la vida.
My gains were a new lease on life and had me respect my life. The losses were, I lost my last partner and a bit of my family. The Good, is I found a man who loves me and treats me with respect and kindness. The bad, is sometimes I have a negative emotions. All in all, I am happy that I was diagnosed, as it opened up my mind and eyes, to see what life is all about.
Por extraño que parezca, uno de los avances ha sido mi enorme progreso en los análisis de sangre. Verán, antes de mi diagnóstico, solo había una persona capaz de sacarme sangre sin que me desmayara antes de que la aguja me tocara. Esto se debía a recuerdos traumáticos de mi infancia en un laboratorio.
Sin embargo, una vez que me diagnosticaron VIH positivo, me encontré en una situación en la que, literalmente, mi vida dependía de poder someterme a extracciones de sangre con regularidad. As strange as this may sound, one of the gains was that I have made leaps and bounds of progress in blood labs. See, before I was diagnosed, there was only one person ever who could get blood out of me, without me passing out before the needle ever touched me. This was due to traumatic childhood memories in a blood lab.
Once I was diagnosed as HIV+ however, I found myself in a position where now, quite literally, my life depends on being able to get stabbed, and do so on a regular basis. Now, as long as I'm laying down, I can manage perfectly fine in a blood lab. This is a good thing for my overall health as there are many things other than HIV that require blood to be drawn, so as strange as it may sound, my diagnosis gave me the motivation I needed to force myself to be able to do what needs to be done.
It's truly amazing what you can force yourself to do when your life depends on it, isn't it?
