Back in 94 I was up for a promotion at work that involve moving and decided to go get tested. At that time, diagnosis was pretty much a death sentence. I took the test. It came back positive and resign myself that I will be getting sick at some point. I took the promotion anyway, moved to new city in a year and a half later I went out sick. Luckily AZT did not kill me and the Protea inhibitors came along. Went from a CD four count of 32 up to my normal, which is about 400.

Going thru et dealing with everything you did is just awful and I concur with another person's response, very bizare especially how you found out. Estaba en el hospital. Me acababan de trasladar de otro hospital. Debía de estar muy enfermo. Siempre rechazaba la prueba del VIH porque no quería sorpresas. El médico me despertó, me dijo que tenía VIH y se fue. A la mañana siguiente, el representante del Centro Central de Chicago vino a mi habitación y me invitó a recibir tratamiento. No me di cuenta de lo enfermo que estaba hasta que vi a mi médico un par de veces. Sabía que tenía VIH avanzado, pero pensé que solo me había librado del SIDA. Así que me sentí aliviado, hasta que busqué mi recuento de CD4 en Google y descubrí que tenía SIDA.

I was in the hospital. I had just been transferred from another hospital. I must of been really sick. I used to always waive the HIV testing. Because I never wanted a surprise. The Dr woke me up. Told me I had HIV and left. The next morning. The Core Center rep in Chicago came to my room and invited me into treatment. I didn't really know how sick I was until I met with my dr a couple times. I knew I had advanced HIV. But I thought I just missed AIDS. So I was kinda relieved. Until I googled my CD4 count and discovered I had AIDS.

Me hacía pruebas mensualmente y, a veces, cada dos meses. Así que tuve mucha suerte de detectarlo tan pronto que no tenía ningún síntoma.

I tested monthly and sometimes bimonthly. So I got really lucky to catch mine so early I didn't have any symptoms.
