¿Cuándo Vas A Ver A Un Médico Cuando Estás Enfermo?
When Do You Go In To See A Doctor When You Are Sick?
This question will result in many answers, depending on insurance to even the country that you live in. When you are sick, how long does it take for you to make that appointment to see a doctor or go to the emergency room? Or do you hope for the best and try to get through the sickness without seeing a doctor?
I don't care for emergency rooms as they are too damn slow and too costly. I'll make an appointment with my doctor or go to urgent care
@Un miembro de myHIVteam, that's not always the best option. What if it is 6 pm and you came down with a 103F degree 39C degree fever? The doctor closed an hour before, and it's a Friday night. Do you chance it waiting until Monday when it could get worse yet maybe get better and still find out you can't get in on Monday? A scenario I had in 2016, I couldn't stop coughing every 2 minutes cough, cough, cough. It was 3 am on Tuesday morning. Just a simple cold, maybe. I went to the ER anyway. I could have waited for the doctor to open and make an appointment a few days later. I went to the ER. They diagnosed me with a sinus infection, yeah not an emergency, the doctor could have figured that out. They listened to my heart, lungs, liver etc. everything normal. Sent me home with sinus meds. I woke up 11 hours later. Cough was worse. Went BACK to ER. 4 minutes from being exactly 12 hours later since last ER visit, I am this time hospitalized for 4 days! I had pneumonia that they couldn't hear the first time! I was up to date on my pneumonia shots too! Imagine if I didn't go to the ER and thought it was a simple cold or bronchitis. Waiting for a doctor could have killed me, especially since I now been diagnosed with TB.
If it's something I can take care of myself, I do just that, I hate going to doctor and I won't go too ER unless I'm about half dead.
@Un miembro de myHIVteam Being that you primary care doctor is at the university and you mention how they come and go, to me it sounds like you are seeing a lot of doctors who are in their residency program. When you are in that type of program you do have the right to ask that a PCP doctor be in the room with the residence doctor, or as only to be seen by a non residence doctor.
I see my ID doc and main doc at thesame time, every 3 months. If I'm Ill , between those times I call the advice nurse or go to the urgent Care ☮️
