HIV care can be expensive. It takes money out of our pocket for other things we may need. So when it comes to your HIV care and finances, how do you cope with the burden of paying for everything
Do you take the help that is out there for rent/mortgage help?

You have to really research your options in your city. You have federal programs like Ryan White and ADAP (AIDS DRUG ASSISTANCE PROGRAM). Dallas actually has a really good services. They do fall short on housing. They have a couple of apartments just for clients. Every city will have section 8 the problem is long like a year and half because they are overworked and under staffed. The demand is overwhelmingly greater than the availability. When it comes to HIV resources in your city you research it. The best resource the we have no matter where we are is the community itself. There are things that clients will know that case workers and agencies will not tell you. In my case I dont pay for anything my medical, medication, mental health because I have done my homework. I'm on disability so I dont make a lot of money. I have learned to cut corners everywhere I can.

thank you that was very generous and kind. Unfortunately a lot of people here online do not reach out especially if they're not in a good place.😔 We must reach out to them and offer our assistance. 🤗🤗🤗

Part 2 of 2:
Hello again my beautiful loved ones-
I was getting full disability, and getting medicare. I now work full time, and I still get my medicare because I pay for my premium out of pocket. I also get Medicaid via their "Buy In Program". As long as I am working, and getting my medicare medicaid reimburse my premium payment and they also cover medical care that Medicare won't. Medicare all has me hooked up with a Medicare drug plan, that pays for my medications; ARV, diabetes,B12 injections, flu shots, ect. All Medicare do not cover Medicaid takes up the slack. If I stop working I will no longer qualify for the buy in program. I am getting married Saturday, 10/12, and I may lose my medicaid due to my fiancee's income, but I will not lose my medicare as long as I pay my monthly premium. I can also get health insurance through my job. Try Googling "What services and resources are available for a person living with HIV/AIDS in the state of_______(fill in the blank). Hopefully something will be of a help to you all. I am a Peer Navigator at the health care facility where I work. I am also a patient. I help newly diagnosed and those lost to care get the help and services they need where it is internally within the clinic or externally in the community. I am a big advocate for my peers and an even bigger self advocate. If there is anything you want me to look into for any of you no matter where you live please let me know. I will make long distant phone calls to you city or state to help you find and get the help you need. I am sorry if my conversation is all over the place, but I get excited when it comes to helping us to get the care and services we need. Sending love and positive energy about being positive. "Love Ya"

Part 1 of 2:
Hello loved ones-
I live in Rochester, NY and I have been fortunate to get great care and services here. ADAP is a federally funded financial assistance that pays for all HIV meds and some other meds if you cannot afford it or do not have medical insurance. Do you have Catholic Charities where you live? They help with housing and provide case management. Ryan White Funding is Federal, and it provides financial help for us only. I know case management services, and other programs are funded with Ryan White monies through the Federal Government. Ask about Ryan White funding in you city and state. Where do you live? I can look into finding some helpful resources where you live and pass it on to you. There is no shame in getting help from outside sources. If you need help that is what these programs are for, so we can get the help we need when we need it. Ask about HOPWA. I think it stands for Housing Opportunity for People living with AIDS. It is like Section-8, but only for anyone who is HIV+. That is what they are there for, so use it. Some programs have to serve some many people over a certain amount of time or lose their funding. Sometimes pharmaceutical companies that make HIV meds will sometimes provide you with free meds if you are taking what they make. You can call the company and ask if they will help you, and what you have to do to get their help.
