I do feel the same way too, it is not that I am ashamed but there are few things in life we had to chose not to be disclosed to people around you its not that they will judge you but the fact that a lot of questions will pop out of nowhere and that's the thing we want to avoid.

I live in a very conservative region of the country, Bible belt of the NW, heavy with White Nationalist and Neo-nazis. I know there are 40+ individuals in the region with HIV, but only 2 seem to be out with that info.
Too dangerous because of discrimination here.
