¿Cuándo Habrá Vacuna Contra El VIH/SIDA, Cuando La Co-vid Tuvo Tres En Un Año?
When Will There Be A Vaccine For HIV/AIDS, When Co-vid Had Three In One Year?

It is a miracle and blessing we have vaccines for Co-vid released just this year. My question as a long termer diagnosed with HIV in 1987, why has it taken, in my case, 34 years for such a vaccine be developed for HIV/AIDS? The Pharmaceutical companies have made billions since manufacturing meds for HIV/AIDS. Why would these companies want to put out a vaccine or cure over making billions of dollars? And why are there not more generics for HIV meds? It all kind of makes one wonder… read more

Ive been thinking about this question and some of the responses for a couple of days and i have to say i completely disagree with the premise that this question postulates.
I dont think there is a conspiracy keeping hiv vaccines away from us.
And by the way the people think they are keeping the cancer cure from us, or the cure for diabetics etc etc....
The last two years with my experience with HIV and our collective experience with covid has taught me how amazing our healthcare system from the CDC to the front line nurses are incredible people who are mostly doing their jobs because they truly want to help people.
I believe the scientists and researchers are trying their best too.
Are they perfect, no.
But i believe that the vast majority of them are doing their job because they want to truly make the wotld a better place.
-You are not taking into an account how unique the HIV virus. Part of reason its harder to make meds incuding vaccines is as a illness HIV is not anything like other viruses. Younare comparing apples and oranges.
-And just like the covid vaccine we do have to prevent HIV, Prep is a way to PREVENT HIV infection. And yes its not a couple of shots but a pill you have to take everyday, its 99% EFFECTIVE!

Should we keep demanding better treatments and vaccine development, DAMN right we should! but i doubt all the governments, the many universities, philanthropists, pharmaceutical companies are that organized enough to carry out that widespread of a conspiracy.

I also think we should be thankful for the amazing advances we have achieved.

Here is a paragraph from a article about why hiv vaccines are so hard to create. https://www.sciencenews.org/article/aids-hiv-va...
- -------------------
The absence of a good HIV vaccine is not for lack of trying, says Mark Feinberg, a viral immunologist who is president and CEO of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative in New York City. “The work that’s gone into HIV vaccine development has been by far the most sophisticated and creative.”

I think we have to match in D.C. and in every city across this great nation again, to see change. I am part of that problem. When the meds came out, it offered me complacency and time that otherwise I wouldn't have to see things happen in my life. We may not be able to do much about big pharma but we change our attitudes. Aids Coalition To Unleash Power, Larry Kramer, Barbie Frank, Glaser, Ryan White, Fauci, Zamora. Where has that stand up to the Powers that be and demand change go ?

It's not what our country can do for us but what can we do to change the path so that our LOUD voices are heard ? I'm just ranting but it's something we can each do besides being feeling strapped down by Big Pharma.

Love and Be Blessed,

Cynthia

I have been thinking this for 20 years. And why isn't there more drugs developed in HIV medicine. Hmmm because there's no money in people who don't make waves. We need to be vocal and political about our power.

I think you answered your own question @Un miembro de myHIVteam - they are making far too much money by managing it and not finding a cure.
It is somewhat early to know the full efficacy of the Covid vaccines but thankfully modern science prevailed, and they’re certainly making a very positive impact on fighting the virus, it looks like it’s going to be around for time to come (I’ve had 3 Pfizer’s).
We’ll wait and see, but I wish you a very joyous Christmastime, and a happy and healthy New Year, hope it brings everything you wish for yourself.
