Cuando se descubrió el VIH por primera vez, fue una sentencia de muerte y las personas con VIH fueron expulsadas y criminalizadas cuando tenían relaciones sexuales. Hoy en día, el VIH no es una sentencia de muerte y me pregunto qué tan normal es la vida y las relaciones de los recién infectados. Además, ¿cómo se sienten hoy en día los supervivientes a largo plazo que se enfrentan a cierto estigma del vih y el sida? ¿Cómo enfrentan el estigma los recién diagnosticados con VIH?
when hiv was first discovered it was a death sentence and people with hiv were cast out and criminalized when having sex. now a days hiv is not a death sentence and I wandering how normal of a life the newly infected live and there relationships. Also how do long term survivors that face certain stigma of hiv and aids long ago feel today? how do newly diagnosed with hiv face stigma

@Un miembro de myHIVteam, I read the horror stories from patients like you and shudder to think of it. I was diagnosed in 2003 and my story is completely different. I'm eternally grateful for the medical and sociological "progress" made by that time. I had personal difficulty with the diagnosis: the guilt and shame of it all, etc. But it was more MY problem than that of those around me. Even the doctor's approach was "live with it" instead of "die from it". I was in Seattle when I was diagnosed, and I'm quite sure it was RADICALLY different than had I been in my home state of Kansas at that time! I've had to withstand a certain amount of "You're getting what you deserve" from my conservative fundamentalist biological family, but THAT is their view, not mine. And some of the "oh, you poor dear "victim" talk had to be dispensed with. I'm not dying. I'm living. I'm glad to hear you talking about facing YOUR challenges and making good things out of life. I was diagnosed in March of this year, I'm not sure how normal my life will be a year from now. Praying I'm still undetectable and able bodied is my main concern. The stories I read on here about the meds long term affects scare me a lot, but I'm here now and so far they haven't caused any issues.
