¡Hola!
Hi! I am from the US but currently live in Mexico which is where I became positive. I take Biktarvy which is working well. My treatment has been covered 100% with my low cost insurance available here. Now I am considering moving back to the US but I am hesitant mainly due to being unsure about medical coverage there. I could get a plan with ACA or through a future employer, but it looks to me like regardless of which plan I get, it still leaves a large amount of out of pocket expense… read more
I'm not sure where you heard these things but the United States has the best social and medical programs in the world. Once you get here get a caseworker and he or she will explain all your options. Look into an HIV agency in your area once you decide where you are going to be residing. Welcome back home 🌈🤗🌈
ADAP federal program called AIDS Drug Assistance Program (misnomer) all folks with HIV/AIDS are covered; also recognized as Ryan White funding. Look to make contact with a local non for profit or county hospital and ask to speak to medical social worker who works with infectious disease so you can ask questions on funding, requirements, etc.... Gilead covers HIV meds from Gilead, not sure the maker of Biktarvy? Hope this helps?
I have the gilead coupon - pays for the whole thing
Was never asked about income - did it through the PCP that started me on the pill
Like yourself, I moved back home(due to family living there). Prior to moving to Atlanta, while on a visit, spoke with Poz people, made calls/visits to AIDS service org. and even visited with my friends doctor. Tedious yes but, it gave me an idea of what to reasonably expect for my hiv care.
If you're not comfotable speaking your concerns to family/friends, checkout the "meet others" section on this site. Type in your/surrounding cities of folk who know firsthand, what is, is not available.
Pray that your move is as positive, and personally fulfilling as mine has been! Knowledge IS power...you're wise to seek/checkout your options BEFORE, making your MAJOR move! Also, in full agreement with our fellow teammates!
Remember HIV agencies do not care about your income they're there to serve the HIV population. Case workers can discuss all your options 😁🤗😁
