Attaching an article from POZ magazine about this miniseries set in the 1980's which was first shown in the US February 18 this year on HBO MAX. Looks interesting however apparently it has been controversial possibly making the stigma about people living with HIV worse. But I'm glad HBO continues to develop movies "The Normal Heart", I think "The Boys in the Band", and this to remind people how the 80's and 90's were for those of us who survived HIV/AIDS. Yes, the series was so riveting I watched all of the episodes in one sitting. Once you start watching it is hard not to finish watching all of it. I didn't have HBOMAX but I did subscribe for a trial run just to watch this mini series. After the promo period is done I will cancel my subscription. I wished the mini series had a second and third season. It is so relatable to what we went through in the 80's although it was based in London and the Isle of Wight, it still relates to what we went through in the US. Good evening Jeff. Aloha!
I haven’t seen the whole series yet. I’ve recorded it but didn’t watch it all as I’m trying to protect my mental health as we go through lockdown - like for many here, it brings back painful memories.
I have seen so many clips though that I might as well have watched it all. And I disagree with what has been blogged - I know that the series has provoked much conversation surrounding HIV/AIDS, positive from my own experience of what I’ve heard and read on social media.
The fact that the characters have an overriding fixation with sex is something that is not surprising, and is very true of London in that era. Davies does say it is largely autobiographical, and I can relate to much of what I have seen, it is quite an accurate representation and can educate both the good and the negative aspects. One thing that is apparent is that we [Brits] do look at things in a different way, it’s out culture (similarly, QAF was screened as a different version in the US). I can’t say what the effect is in the US but am pleased that such a thought-invoking series was aired here. Davies scores a hit again.

I'm glad you watched the series. I still have not, just haven't had the time, but due to your reaction, I'm definitely going to watch it soon. BTW, two of my doctors just returned from Maui and showed me videos of the humpback whales that come to Hawaii this time of year. They said they saw many, which is such a great thing. Also lots of turtles too. Miss Hawaii!
