Just started seeing new HIV doc. He suggests I get my labs once a year which is totally different than my other docs that ordered them every three to six months. I told him I am a long term survivor. Didn't seem he treats many LTS patients, mostly newbies, and prep maintenance. Finally convinced him to see me and order labs every six months which he said yes to rather reluctantly. Wondering how often you see your HIV doc and get labs every year?
The level of care you receive is pretty much based on YOU! People can talk with you about your care and Dr's can tell you what they think about your care, but ultimately it's YOU who has the final decision to determine what works best for YOU! I didn't get to be a LTS with a wonderful life because someone told me what I should and shouldn't do! I understood what was important to a longer and more productive life and that decision was mine to make! I see my IDD every 10 months unless I feel an additional visit is necessary! If you feel the need to be controlled by this disease it can destroy YOU ! My opinion only as everyone is different! I couldn't tell you what my numbers are or were even 15 yrs ago, they're numbers and meaningless unless the Dr has a concern and a change needs to be made! They know they're only allowed to tell me a change needs to be made and if it will affect some other aspect of my physical health! There are things you can't control and even I the robotic being had to do some soul searching and face the reality of aging with HIV and the loss of those I held close to my heart! Aging is another facet of life and the realization that those who should be here aging with me but are all gone is just as hard if not worse than those yrs in the 80'S and 90'S when they all left! YOU can set the future for yourself and have an incredible life if you take charge of your life, no excuses, no finger pointing, just owning what you have and making peace with yourself! YOU may be positive but always remember YOU are in control! Blessings to all of you beautiful and fabulous people!
I get mine done every 3 months. When i started a year ago my cd4 was 29. I got my last labs done about a week ago and they are 209. I think once they get to a “normal” range they dont do them as often. Im not sure though
I have to do mine every 3months my is pretty laid she is cool though but hell I say what I have to say
Every 4 to 6 months, depending on my health issues. It has been 20 years since my diagnosis and I applaud your tenacity. Always advocate for your own health, trust and follow your instincts.
